A barrel with another chapter
A customer brought SHB a barrel they wanted to keep and use. The work began with tightening the hoops and refurbishing the barrel, then developed into a cocktail-height cabinet with storage, a glass top and lighting.
Restore what is worth keeping
The barrel’s wood and metal hoops remain part of the finished piece. Refurbishing it gives those materials a new purpose while keeping the shape and markings that made the barrel worth bringing to the shop.
Make the inside useful
Two curved doors open to rotating shelves. The round storage follows the barrel’s shape, with a dark interior that sets off the wood surfaces. Ring handles, a hasp and fitted edges complete the doors.
Work from the floor to the top
An elevation brings the barrel to cocktail height. A rebar footrail, a rebar surround beneath the glass and lighting around the top make it a piece to gather around as well as a cabinet to open.
