For Boarding House Bistro’s Grafton location, SHB’s work connects frontage identity, wayfinding, suite signage and barrel features. It builds on an earlier relationship with the business at its O’Fallon location.

Make the entrance count

The large dimensional frontage sign gives the venue a clear face on the street. White raised lettering and gold details sit against a dark background. In the shop, the process moved from a full-size primed form through hand painting to the finished sign.

Help people find where they belong

The Perch, The Cellar and Charcuterie Bar each have their own markers. The Last Pour and Night Cap suite caps distinguish private guest destinations from the public parts of the venue.

These details address a real operating need: visitors should know where to go without wandering into private accommodations. The signs carry the venue’s character while giving useful direction.

Carry the story into the space

Inside The Cellar, the stacked barrel display gives the existing stone-vaulted room a focal point. Barrel work also appears in the outdoor gathering area. The SHB scope is the barrel and sign work shown, within the venue’s wider setting.

The finish starts by hand

The waypoint signage received its character in the shop, including hand-charring the wood. This photograph catches Ryan working through that finish before the signs became part of the Boarding House Bistro build.
