The barrel’s next chapter can be heard. This custom drum kit carries the wood, hoops and familiar curved shells into a set of working instruments.

Build around a different purpose
Turning a barrel into a drum means working through the shell, the drumhead, the hardware and the support. The shop photographs show that progression, from preparing the barrels to fitting the heads and completing the set.
Keep the material recognizable
The staves and metal hoops remain visible. Dark drumheads, tension hardware and wood supports give each piece the fittings it needs while leaving the barrel’s character in view.
From the workbench to the stage
In January 2025, SHB shared the finished set being played at Pop’s Concert Venue, with Rockabilly Bones and The Black Spots. Seeing the work used is part of what makes a project like this worth taking on.
