A barrel worth a four-hour drive.
Nick’s barrel came home from a private barrel pick at Buffalo Trace. He and his friends had toured the distillery, shared laughs with Freddie and made memories together. He wanted the barrel to become something he could use while keeping that day close.

Keep the memory in the material
Nick lives in Kansas City, four hours from the shop. He brought the barrel to SHB in person, asking for a functional piece that stayed true to the experience. The original signature and markings mattered, so the top came straight from his barrel.
Give it a useful next chapter
SHB built a cabinet with two shelves, reinforced doors and a finish worked through by hand. Opening the curved doors reveals useful storage; closing them brings the familiar barrel form back together.
The return trip
Nick and his wife Robin made the drive back to pick it up. The photographs bring that handoff together with the details they wanted preserved: their barrel, its history and the cabinet it became.
